Following a six-month search, Kristin Wittry has been hired as the Scranton city clerk. She replaces Melinda Hinners who resigned in early July for another position.
Wittry began work last week and will staff the city hall office. The council offered the position at a starting wage of $14.50 per hour.
Hinners had remained on the job, filing the necessary paperwork, writing minutes and paying bills until her replacement was found. The council offered the position to three other candidates prior who declined the job.
At their December 11 meeting, the council approved hiring Jeff Rudolph as a part-time public works employee at a starting wage of $13 per hour.
Chris Whitaker of Region XII Council of Governments and Dennis Ross with DCR Home Inspections provided information on their services for rental housing inspections. Whitaker also explained data on Region XII’s work with cities on code enforcement. The council voted unanimously to sign an agreement with Region XII for code enforcement services.
Matt McDonald submitted a bid for the demolition of the house at 1107 Eagle St at a cost of $6,500. It was approved. The council split vote on a motion to approve land survey services for the water quality improvement project at a cost of $3,900. Ethel Subbert cast the dissenting vote.
Non-action items discussed included rental housing inspection criteria, security cameras, community center rental deposits, and city hall improvements.
The council was scheduled to meet on January 8 for its regular monthly meeting.
